Generate batches of invented full names — 1, 5, 10, 20, or 50 at a time — for characters, test data, and placeholders. Copy them all with one click.

Need names that aren't real people? This generator combines 64 common first names with 64 surnames — 4,096 combinations — into realistic full names, as many as you need at once. Writers use it for characters, developers for test accounts and mock data, and teachers for examples that don't point at a real student.

Pick a count and press Generate. Useful for story characters, classroom examples, test accounts, mock data, and placeholder text — these are invented names, not real people.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose how many names you need: 1, 5, 10, 20, or 50.
  2. Press Generate names.
  3. Press Copy all to copy the batch, or generate again for a fresh set.

The formula

Each name = one uniformly random first name + one uniformly random surname from 64 × 64 = 4,096 combinations; duplicates inside a batch are re-rolled.

Worked example

Ask for 10 names and you get 10 distinct invented full names, drawn from the 4,096 possible combinations — the kind of batch a developer would paste straight into a test database as seed users.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these real people's names?

No. Each name is assembled on the spot from a first-name list and a surname list, so the combinations are invented. A generated name might coincidentally match a real person — with common names that's unavoidable — but no real person's data is used or stored.

How many different names can it make?

The lists hold 64 first names and 64 last names, giving 4,096 possible full-name combinations. Within a single batch the generator also retries duplicates, so a batch of 10, 20, or even 50 reads as distinct people rather than repeats of the same name.

What do people use generated names for?

Fiction and game characters, example students in teaching materials, test accounts and seed data in software, form and spreadsheet placeholders, privacy-safe screenshots and demos, and brainstorming baby or pet names. Anywhere a realistic-looking name is needed but a real identity shouldn't be used.

Can I generate names in bulk and copy them?

Yes — choose 1, 5, 10, 20, or 50 names, press Generate, then Copy all to put the whole batch on your clipboard, one name per line, ready to paste into a document, spreadsheet, or seed script.

How is this different from the name picker wheel?

The generator creates names out of thin air for when you don't have any. The picker wheel does the opposite job: you bring an existing list of real names and it chooses one fairly at random. Use the generator to invent, the wheel to choose.
